The German used car market is attractive – if you know what you are buying

Germany has Europe's largest used car market: well-maintained vehicles, complete service histories and prices that often beat your home market even after transport and registration. The risk is that you buy based on photos and a listing text written by the seller.

Meistercheck closes that gap. We are an independent inspection company – we do not sell cars, we do not take commissions from dealers. A certified master mechanic (Kfz-Meister) inspects the vehicle where it stands, with TÜV NORD diagnostic equipment, and documents everything in a structured report. You read it in your language and decide whether to buy, negotiate or walk away.

How it works

  1. 1

    Book online

Book the inspection in our online checkout and paste the mobile.de, AutoScout24 or dealer link. Not sure yet? Send us the listing via WhatsApp or the form first and we answer your questions.
  2. 2

    We arrange the appointment

We contact the German seller or dealer, confirm the vehicle is still available and schedule the inspection. You do not need to speak German or be present.
  3. 3

    On-site inspection

A certified master mechanic inspects the car on site: body and paint, engine, gearbox, chassis, brakes, electronics via TÜV NORD diagnostics, documents and a test drive where technically and legally possible.
  4. 4

    Report in your language

Usually within 24 hours* you receive the full report: photos, findings, fault codes, defect list and an overall assessment – written in your language, not machine-translated afterwards.

What we inspect

Every inspection follows the same fixed standard, so reports are comparable – whether the car is in Hamburg or Munich.

  • Body and paint: paint thickness measurement, signs of accident repair, rust, panel gaps
  • Engine, gearbox and drivetrain: cold start, leaks, noises, condition of belts and hoses
  • Chassis, suspension, brakes and tyres
  • Electronics: TÜV NORD vehicle diagnostics with fault code read-out across all control units
  • Interior, equipment and function test of all systems
  • Test drive (where technically and legally possible): steering, braking, vibrations, gearbox behaviour
  • Documents: registration papers, service history, TÜV certificate, VIN match, mileage plausibility
  • Electric and hybrid vehicles: TÜV NORD battery check (state of health) available

Frequently asked questions

In your language. We deliver the complete report – findings, defect list, assessment – in the language of your country. Communication by WhatsApp and email is in English.

No. You send us the listing, we contact the seller in German and arrange everything. You receive the report wherever you are.

Yes. We call or write to the seller, confirm the car is still available and schedule the inspection appointment. Price negotiation and the purchase itself remain between you and the seller – the report gives you the facts for that conversation.

If the seller refuses an independent inspection, that is itself an important signal. If the car is sold before we can inspect it, you simply move the booking to another vehicle – cancellation is free up to 2 hours before the appointment.

Across Germany we usually schedule the inspection within a few business days, depending on the seller's availability. The report follows within 24 hours* of the inspection.

You book and pay online by card or bank transfer. Businesses based in another EU country with a valid VAT ID are invoiced without German VAT (reverse charge); the VAT ID is verified automatically via VIES.

Yes. For electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles we offer the TÜV NORD battery check, which measures the battery's state of health – the most important value for an EV's price.

We focus on the independent inspection. For transport, export plates and registration in your country we can point you to partners; the inspection report is accepted as documentation of the vehicle's condition.

The report documents the vehicle's condition at the time of inspection with photos, measurements and fault codes. It is used by buyers as the basis for price negotiations, import paperwork and – where necessary – claims against the seller.
